SINGULARITY: A Perspective for Creative Transformation

The absence of a “Singularity” viewing point as a perspective for dealing with the big issues facing the Human Race today keeps us in a Binary/Dualistic blindfold that blocks truly transformational resolutions rather than merely transactional solutions which rise again in one shape or another.

There have been instances where an individual or small group speaks and acts from a Singularity approach.

Nelson Mandela, after his release from 30 years of incarceration, declared that the Black people would not treat their white oppressors in the same way they had been treated otherwise they would only continue the same racist approach. Many of his followers including his own wife could not accept this but he stood firm in this Singularity and the beautifully termed “Rainbow Nation” was created avoiding the otherwise inevitable blood bath of such transitions.  This singularity persisted as long as he stood for it. One can only hope it persists after his death!

Two thousand years ago Jesus Christ stood for Singularity when he spoke in the face of the many religious and political authorities holding power at that time. “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and render unto God that which is God’s” was his response to the binary based question and test   “Which authority is more important God or Caesar”? The singularity opens up the perspective that both exist in the state of Human Affairs.

Kennedy in his inaugural address which was shaped in its entirety from a Singularity context requested: “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man”.

Astronauts returning to earth from space expressed what became described as the “Overview Effect”.  The Overview Effect is a cognitive shift in awareness reported by some astronauts during spaceflight, especially when viewing the Earth from outer space.

It is the experience of seeing firsthand the reality of the Earth in space, which is immediately understood to be a tiny, fragile ball of life, “hanging in the void”, shielded and nourished by a paper-thin atmosphere. From space, national boundaries vanish, the conflicts that divide people become less important, and the need to create a planetary society with the united will to protect this “this pale blue dot” becomes both obvious and imperative.

Love is transformational as a Singularity. It allows and is in no way diminished by liking and disliking, arguing, disagreeing, hurting and even momentary hating. Unfortunately love can degrade to the binary engagements of liking and disliking and co-dependancy.  It, like all Singularity, needs to be continuously re-created as a Singularity.

The emphasis on man-made climate change even when well intentioned mistakenly engages from the binary approach of over-stating and over focussing on the impact of man versus paying attention to the understanding of Natural causes of climate change and how man can learn to exist in warmer and colder climates. The suppression and tardiness given to the possibility of Nuclear Fusion (as distinct from Nuclear Fission) is a glaring example of how infinite energy is  available from a natural, safe and non contaminating energy source.
